Under the patronage of the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies, Chartered Accountant Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Thajil Al-Maamouri, the Institute’s Consulting Office held a training course entitled “Application of International Accounting Standards.” The course ran from October 5, 2025, to October 16, 2025. This course aims to develop skills and provide expertise and knowledge to employees in the Ministry of Oil’s various departments in the field of applying international accounting standards. Three courses were held simultaneously: the first outside Baghdad at the Oil Training Institute in Kirkuk; the second at the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies at the University of Baghdad; and the third in Basra.

The course covered several topics, including measuring fair value and its impact on enhancing the transparency of financial reports; addressing changes in foreign exchange rates and their impact on assets and liabilities; and addressing provisions, liabilities, and contingent assets and their impact on accounting disclosure. It also addressed the preparation of financial statements and planning budgets and their role in supporting planning. The course also addressed improving financial oversight and enhancing the quality of decision-making, in addition to presenting a number of practical examples and cases, which were discussed with the participants.

At the conclusion of the course, participants were tested. The Dean of the Higher Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies, Chartered Accountant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Thajeel Al-Maamouri, presented them with certificates of appreciation. He emphasized the need to organize such courses on an ongoing basis, which have become important and vital topics in light of the development of the oversight and accounting system in accordance with international standards. He also expressed the Institute’s readiness to continue scientific and professional cooperation to contribute to developing the competencies of employees at the Ministry of Oil and to maximize the use of the expertise of the Institute’s consulting office in providing training courses to various state institutions.

This course achieves the Sustainable Development Goals, represented by Goal 8, which calls for decent work and economic growth, and Goal 17, “Partnership for the Goals.”
